Photography by Alana Paterson

Alana Paterson

Alana Paterson was born and raised on a small island off the west coast of Canada which at the time was inhabited solely by her immediate family. Because of her remote upbringing, she developed a relationship with nature that most people only experience with their closest childhood friends. This connection defines her work, whether her photographs depict the concrete landscapes of skateboard culture, the small pleasures of city living, or the moments of silent friendship she shares with the countryside. Her work often comments on the relationship between people and the spaces that surround them. Alana studied at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver, as well as The Lesley University of Boston. She holds a BFA in photography. Her work has appeared in numerous international publications and works with several clients from North American and abroad. Alana is currently completing a body of work that explores organic farming and small scale agricultural development - a way of life she has been immersed in for the last 3 years. She currently lives and works between Gabriola Island and Vancouver, Canada.
